Thread: Hughes Deep Trans Pan will not fit?

1. #1
Today I took my truck to the transmission shop to have all my goodies installed (HD2 shift kit, servos, etc) I had a new Hughes deep pan in the mix and the guy at the trans shop said it would not fit do to clearance issues with the exhaust. Anyone else have trouble putting one of these pans on? I can't return it because it is opened. Should I try a different trans shop?

Thanks,
Scott

Is your truck 2x4 or 4x4?

This is strange, I had a Hughes deep pan on my 60E before I converted to the 80E.
I had no clearance issues.

Me thinks a second opinion is in order here.

Actually I did get a second opinion and I looked under there myself. It seems that if I put the pan on, then the Y pipe will be touching it. The second guy said I would loose all of the cooling benifits of having the fins and bigger pan if the pan is touching t the exhaust.

Made sense to me. Maybe when I get my LTs and ORY pipe it will fit better.

Yeah, if it was even close to the pan it would heat up the fluid. I think Bud8Fan had one to install also and he ran into the same issue. Makes me wonder why GM would cross the exhaust under the pan in the first place. In the OBS trucks they ran the crossover under the bellhousing.

Do you have the stock exhaust?

I ask this because both my stock exhaust and my Dynomaxx LTs both crossed in the space between the crossmember and the transmission pan on the 4L60E.

Since the 80E I installed is longer, the exhaust crossover is about in the center of the pan. I am also running the Hughes deep pan on this transmission and I still don't have any problems with clearance.

I will take some pics and post them if you like, just let me know.

yep red is right..i had the same issue with the deep pan as well...would not fit because of the cross over exhaust pipe being to close to the stock pan...
