You're now in a country full of history. I took two weeks of vacation over there and wish I had taken a month to see stuff. Bed and breakfasts are inexpensive and you can see lots of neat stuff taking organised bus tours during your spare time. I visited about 4 castles and probably 6 castle ruins. The ruins were the coolest in my book. Check out the countryside. Bath was a neat place to visit and talk about history! I really enjoyed my time there. I hope you and your wife do too.
