    Hello all,

I have a silverado which I installed an ls1 out of a c5 vette. I have a lifter pecking pretty loud. I have penzoil 5w30 in it now, I am assuming that the engine originally had the mobil one synthetic package. Could this be my problem? Do I need to go back to synthetic oil or maybe switch to 10w30. All your help is needed.

    thanks alot,
    Jarrod

All of the Gen III GM engines have this annoying tick at some point. Its refered to as CSK, or cold start knock. Not much you can do to get it to go away, just have live with it really.

yea I have heard those, just never have heard one quite this loud....could be a big problem im not sure, i just know that it is coming directly from the passenger side valve cover.

thanks for your info......i havent drove the truck much since the install so maybe it will go away with some driving

You could have some sticking valvetrain parts also, are all the rocker arms properly positioned and torqued?

It could be a noisy lifter or you may be low on oil. Check the oil level first. Mine gets really noisy when its a little low, even as low a one quart.
