Hey guys I am new to the sight. I have a 1990 ss454 pickup. I am about to drop in a 2004 6.0 motor and had a few questions. I have a z06 cam and springs that a friend gave me and was wondering if it would be worth the swap? The engine is sitting on a stand right now so should be a way easy swap. The engine is a lq4. Also did any of you use the factory engine harness? If so how easy was it to make it work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Shawn

The LQ4 with a Z06 cam is SWEEEEET!

I had that combination originally and switched to a comp cam. I'll be putting the Z06 cam back in soon.

It will be a simple swap on the stand. Go for it.

That would be a sweet setup in the 6.0, I have it in my 5.3L and love it.

Did you guys install the cam straight up or 4 degrees advance? Also any loss of power on the bottom end?

I installed mine straight up. With an LQ4 you won't notice any loss in low end, but it will come hard around 3500 rpm.

I'll answer the factory harness question.

Yes, I am using a modified stock harness and no, it was not hard to do..... The Gen III truck harnesses are easy to pull apart and modify, if you have the schematics from the factory service manual. Please note, I did not say Chiltons or Haynes or the like. What I am referring to is a set of Service Manuals from Helm. Alternately, a digital set is usually available on Ebay or an online subscription to Alldata will get you the pin-out information you need.

Throw those TBI 454 heads in the trash and call up Canfield for some heads. You'll glamor at the gains.

I'm interested to know the gains also. I have been thinking about doing this. I think once I go to 10lbs of boost it should make a nice diff. without being cammed too heavy.
