It can be tuned out, but those DOD lifters are JUNK JUNK JUNK. For 200$ you can delete it and have the peace of mind of having good parts.

So I tore it down today and it was DOD. Can I use the 8 good lifters and just replace the 8 DOD ones? The lifters have metal all the way around the roller like the Ls7 ones. The motor only has 10k on it so everything is very new.

You could, but for the price of a set, I'd just replace them all.

Got a little further with the motor. Do I have to change the valley tray to complete the DOD delete or can I just not plug it in?

You need an LS2 valley cover. If not, you'll have crap for oil pressure.

or the 4.8 nnbs cover witch is alot cheaper than the ls2 valley cover.

i had the same dilema but mine was a aluminum 6.0 243 heads with yellow springs vvt and dod normal pan though so i thought about a g8 6.0maybe.

urs is prob from an envoy or v8 trailblaser non ss since its a 5.3 and that pan is used in trail blasers

Never even thought about the NNBS 4.8. Good call on that!

I didnt have time to read this whole topic. I dont remember if this engine is gen3 or 4. FWIW if your dod engine is not gen4 you cant put the nnbs valley cover on it. The gen4 cover has the oil pressure sending unit boss built into it.
