I see we are eye to eye on the bosch crap 4's...lol. They do suck, I dont have an opinion on royal purple however, have never used it. I personally use Mobil1 synthetic and have never used anything else in my truck.

I used it for a while in my old truck. Didn't seem to make a difference. At over 150,000 miles on the 350 I had no problems except normal oil consumption so switched back to cheaper dino oil. I read somewhere the ingredients in RP has a kind of abrasive that actually wears on moving parts. After I bought my current truck I put Mobil1 in the first time and haven't strayed since. RP is kinda purple in color when new, after it goes from the bottle to the engine you can't tell and it gets black like any other oil.

Almost stock '00 Sierra Z71 ECSB - 5.3L, 3.73's & G80 * K&N 77 cold air intake * Edelbrock shorty ceramic coated headers * Flowmaster 40 3"/dual 2.5" * PCM dyno tuned at CCS Tuning.com
1/4 mile times on stock GM tune at HRP on 11/14/04 (tuned on the 15th so will just hafta go again!!!
Funny that you don't see brand new cars coming out with RP directly from the factory...![]()
I was jus watchin that show TRUCKS! and they did a test to see if Royal Purple helped with fuel mileage. They did a DYNO with regular fluids..Then a DYNO with Royal Purple fluids.
Diff oil
Synthetic motor oil
tranny
The second dyno showed a 24ft lb decrease in power the engine used. So the engine didnt have to work as hard as it did with the other stuff. They also said that the operating temps were lower..tranny temp lower..diffs were also efficient too. Ive never used it myself but my neighbor uses it in his 04 dodge diesel. He says it lasts longer too.
So far, I only have the RP engine oil in mine. I switched to it because I read it can eliminate dry starts. Believe it or not, it actually helped mypinging problem a little, too. Synthetic (pure synthetics) oil do not leave the same waxy, varnish build up inside the engine, either.

That waxy buildup you see in some engines is from parafin based motor oils like Pennzoil and Quaker State. I ran Castrol in my GrandAm and at 117K pulled the motor down to replace a cracked head, it was as clean as new and showed no measurable wear.

Well, if they came with RP, they'd have to come with Nelson tunes, turbos, K&N filters, etc.Originally posted by jethro_3@Oct 25 2005, 02:05 AM

I used RP in my 99Z (purchased new) since the 8k mark. All fluids switched out then; noticed significant decrease in driveline friction after swapping out trans/rear fluid. I have RP in my HD diffs as well and noticed same decrease in driveline friction. Next up is the xsfr case.
I'm now using Redline oil in the Z instead of RP (local store was out of RP so I thought I'd try the Redline). Actually noticed an HP improvement with the Redline over the RP. IMO, either oil is significantly better than M1.
