    Easy Swap i think

What's up guys, new to the forum, a fella off GMFS told me alot of guys who know their stuff are one here. so hence i am here, lol i just looked thru 75 pages of past threads because i can't search using 4.8. anyways to my question. i found a truck that is perfect except for 1 thing, it has the pesky 4.8 in it, it's a 2000. from what i read, i can just bolt in a 5.3 and change the computer and i will be good to go right? i don't want to 6.0, i had the 5.3 and was happy with it, so i am just going with what i want. am i right in assuming everything is just plug and play with this swap? oh and i will be using a 99-02 5.3, supposedly that is the easiest way. thanks guys

any 5.3L engine up to 2006 at least will bolt right in and all you have to do is get the PCM tuned for the change. You will need to swap your intake if you get an engine that has drive by wire on it, just swap the bolt on stuff. For what its worth you might as well get a complete mail order tune from Nelson Performance to wake it up while you're at it. Its a lifetime tune, for as long as you own the truck they will make upgrades to it free of charge (shipping extra) and you'll never have to pay for another tune unless you decide to go really wild on it and then its just a little upgrade charge for the really radical tune updates.

99-07 classics swap in. the only thing you need to do honestly(money wise) is buy a long block. that way you dont have a pyle of parts laying around. the NNBS (GEN IV) has knock sensors on the outside of the motpr vs in the valley cover. if your thinking of going with a GEN IV engine like i did, go read my build thread. ITS COSTLY.
find an 06 5.3, swap your TB bolt it in. get a cusom tune(you'll love it over a handheld) if i had it to do again, id buy a 06 6.0/80E and swap in a stall and gears call it a day. if your against a 6.0 its a shame as far as HP but understood Price wise.

I just don't think i need the 6.0, it does sound good though. the motor will be going into a regular cab long box, getting lifted 6" and 35's, so maybe a 6.0 would be the better bet, but, i am trying to do this on somewhat on a budget and as simple as possible. the truck only has 130k miles on it. i just don't wanna have to build the 4l60 to take the abuse right away, but maybe i should and get it all done at 1 time and be done with it. I don't wanna cam the 6.0 or nothing, just leaving it stock. hmmm, i can get 5.3's for 500-700 bucks and i'd have the swap done over the weekend, but i am sure with 35's the 6.0 would be awesome to have. some say the stock trans with hold up and some won't, i'm not super hard on my trucks anymore, but i would hate to go thru all the work and 2 weeks later i destroy the trans, that would be no fun

understood. thats why i said the BUDGET part of it the 5.3 is the best bet. the 6.0 would be awsome with a lifted/35" tires. but the problem is when you go to a lifted truck on 35s you should go ahead and regear my friend.(it'll be easier on your tranny IMO)
    say 700 for the motor.
    110 for a shift kit
    50 for servos
    150-200 tune
there ya go perfect swap for under 1500
sell your motor for as much as you can and recomp some of the expenses from your build
