I have a customer with 286,000 miles on his Cummins and makes regular dyno pulls in the 900+hp range and runs low 11's all day long. Project X makes 1100+hp and has 240,000+ miles on the clock. The V8 diesels don't last long at these HP levels......Wait, Most can't even make these power levels. At least not wihout a $40K shortblock!!!!

900hp isn't uncommon in the dmax world. 1100 is pretty high...

well one pint i think people are missing is drive ability. is a 600hp sbc as reliable daily as a 600hp ls? no its not the ls motor is hands down better. you could never drive a 600hp sbc to work every day and be comfortable with the ls you can.

He is completely right. Why would the Cummins have a 350,000 mile overhaul warranty when the Ford and Chevy only have a 250,000 mile overhaul warranty? It is plain and simple--an inline motor configuration will last longer than a v-style configuration. Same goes with gas or diesel. And for horsepower/torque--if you take a 3.0L V6 and a 3.0L I6, the inline motor will make more power and torque than the v-configuration.

which is why the ford 300 lasts forever, the dodge 4.0 lasts forever and same reason why the 2JZ destroys all with power

Wow George--you really know your motors! When I was thinking of a truck I6 gas motor, the Ford 4.9L came to mind... And I guess you could call the 4.0L I6 from the Jeeps as a "Dodge" motor. Just think about it....Cummins...BMWs...Supras...Jeep XJ...R31, R32, R33, R34 Skylines...the list goes on and on!!!! Oh, did I forget to mention the Vortec 4200???

i can find 350 real easy and cheap..but all the 5.3 seem like they got more power to me
i love the gen 1 sbc's i have plenty of them, but now im partial to the ls,when u buy a fuel injection set up to go on a sbc your gonna have as much in it as a used low mileage ls,If your doing a swap go with the ls,you will be so much happier, and yes a stock 5.3 has more HP than a stock vortec 5.7,My 5.7 denali wont pull a hair out of a cats ass.My C3 sierra 6.0 wont flinch with a loaded car trailer behind it.
