I have a 1990 C1500 Phantom Dually Long Bed and am going to put 29x 18.5 out back. My question is, should I go with a LS1 or LS6? both can be built from the same block as far as I know (new to the LS1 scene). I am wanting to turbo either one I go with. Money wise, $10k for the swap and upgrading the motor because it's going to be built over a period of time. I have a stock 4.3L now and it ain't going to do jack with these tires. Im wanting atleast 450whp. Ideas?

They're both great! If you can get the LS6 for a decent price, put it in. It already has the HP you're looking for. If you can get the LS1 cheap enough go with that one. You can change the cam and heads to get you the 400 HP you need. It all just depends on the money you have and want to spend.

    Good Luck

Go for the LS6. If it costs you $1000 more for the additional 65 hp it will be worth it. Try for a 2002+ model for more HP and cam lift. A used set of LS6 heads would cost you $1000 used. A LS6 intake will cost you $325 used. A LS6 cam would be at least $100 used. All that to move the hp up from the stock LS1 to an LS6.

The swap is exactly the same. Dimensionally everything is the same. The wiring is all the same, also. The LS6 has D shaped ports instead of round but that won't affect you in any way.
