Hey. I need advice. I have a 1979 Silverado K10. I am putting a 2004 6.L Vortec HO and a beefed-up 4L60E. The engine has a "drive by wire" throttle body. To use it I will have to get the pedal, sensor, wiring and linkage. That is not too difficult but it is an added expense. My other option is to get a mechanical throttle body. If I doo that I could get a larger throttle body, like an 80mm. So my questions are:

    1) What are the pros and cons of "drive by wire" and "drive by cable"?

    2) Which do you prefer?

    3) Either way, which size throttle body should I use to maximize power?

    Thanks.

    Shane

I like drive by cable since you press the pedal, the throttle blades open, no computer interference. With by wire it's all up to the computer once you press the pedal.

There are stories of PCM programming issues with the fly by wire. Not alot, but there are way to many variables in the PCM for fly by wire...stick to cable, especially with a swap of this size. No issues...push pedal...blade moves.

Don't need to bother with trying to tune for a fly-by-wire, stick with the old fashioned cable.
