vette lt1 purchase ques

hey guys new to the site...been on gmfullsize.com for a while now as Matt over there

anyways, i plan on buying a vette lt1 in the next year to replace the vortec 4.3 in my 95 half ton sierra. ive done a but load of research into the specifics of the swap and my question is...where would the best place to buy a vette motor. ebay usually has a few, im just tryin to think of different sources to compare prices and whatnot. would a junkyard be an ok place to look for one of these?

any help is appreciated guys.

Save your money and go LS1 from a 97+ Vette or 98+ Fbody. You'll save about 75 lbs of dead weight and 400 hp is easily attainable with simple bolt ons, no power adder required. Get it complete with all the accessories. I like the fbody accessories and they are all over the place.

They have a cast iron blocks with aluminum heads, the LS1's have aluminum blocks and heads and 6 bolt mains.

Yep, Vette LT1s only have aluminum heads and intake. I pulled one out of my 92 and replaced it with an LS1 to save the weight plus the LS1 has a hell of a "cool factor".

Ah okay they're 4 bolts but still iron blocks. For some reason I thought they were aluminum also... maybe I'm thinking of the '70 LT1 350?

yeah i thought about ls1, but i would prefer the lt1 simply because it will drop right in to my truck and bolt up. i could even use my tranny(which i wont) if i had to.

but how extensive are the mounting/cutting mods to throw an ls1 in? im going with a corvette motor regardless because of accessory mounting so i dont have to notch my frame.

The Corvette LS1 requires frame notching for the a/c unless you mount it high on the passenger side using Street and Performance's mounts. The Corvette LT1 will require new A/C lines since the compressor is on the driver side and has a bastard fitting for the lines. The LS1 drops right in without any problems, just need motor mount adapters such as the ones they sell at Street and Performance. www.hotrodlane.cc

Uh, no.... The 70 LT-1 was all iron.... block and heads.....
