    some of the LQ4s had cast iron heads and longer crank snouts that allowed the use of the old style flywheel, flexplate and transmissions.

    pistons and pushrods are diff. on the LQ motors. if they are 01+ then thats the only diff. 00 down would be iron headed... LQ9 comes out of escalades, denali's and ss's only...

    The LQ9's have beefier rods in the earlier versions; later model LQ4's got the same rods as the LQ9. In the newer versions only the pistons are different.
