Just wondering about the new GM little diesels

I heard they are coming out but I havent heard much about them. I was planning on going diesel when I graduate out of College and I wouldnt mind going half ton diesel and modding it up a bit.

What are the numbers this motor produces and MPG it has yall think?
and I wonder what trans. it will come with cause I wanna add exhaust, and tune it, and all sorts of stuff

It is going to be a 4.5L v-8 for the 2009 half tons. power is going to be at least 310 hp and 520 tq and as much as 340 hp and 590 tq. same size as a 5.3, and I havent seen any mileage numbers yet. there is a big write up in Diesel Power mag sept. 2007 its going to be cool

I wonder what tranny will be used...Probably 4l80e...If they do that it might be easier for someone to do the 4l80e swaps

The new trend is for normal power levels with more gears so maybe 6l80e. GM put a whole crap load of money into it. The exhaust comes out of the heads into the lifter valley of the engine and into the turbos vs out exhaust manifolds, to an up pipe and into a turbo. Thats going to be cool to see. I would imagine it will also have a 14 bolt or bigger differential. However if i was GM i would be a little concerned about fuel prices for diesel. Nobody is buying them right now unless they have more money than sense. Insiders in the oil buisness around here are speculating that diesel prices will go back down. I dont think that will happen though i think that gas prices will go up to higher levels than diesel causing diesel to look less expensive
