ive got an exhaust leak on the left side of my truck and it sounds like a ticking noise and its annoying. my neighbor who is a mechanic said its a header gasket that goes between header and the head. is this correct, or could it be something else?

either at the head or at the flange

The most common leak is at the header/manifold to pipe connection. Many times all that is required to fix the leak is to simply tighten the nuts on the flange. Be sure you soak them with a penetrating oil like wd40 before twisting on them or they may end up twisted off. Soak them over night if you can.
