Engine Identification

I am going to look at 5 engines a guy has, so how do I identify them apart by year.

I have a 2006 5.3L and it has a bent rod, so I am going to replace the rod and piston assy, but if I can get the whole engine for 300 bucks, I figure what the heck.

I have the casting numbers, and the knowledge that 58 tooth reluctor wheels will have a grey plug, and the 24 tooth has the black plug to the reluctor ring.
So hopefully they will have the wiring harness.

So can anyone help me out? I found out I need an engine from a 2005-2006 truck with engine code T.

As long as you're getting the long block I don't think you'll have any issues finding a 5.3 but make sure it says 5.3 on it and not 4.8. Grab a 6.0L if you get the option for the same money. The accessories will swap over from your engine to the new one. Remember the single line fuel inlet will be a 2004+ engine. Engine size is cast on the flywheel end of the block on the passenger side. A 4.8 and 5.3 are the same block only shorter stroke crank on the 4.8.

I have found all the casting info, and the option sheet for the truck stated LM7 but I do not know if that is any help.

I am going to look at the engines this afternoon, and I really appreciate your help with this, I just threw this out in case someone else may know.

If I go 6.0, I will have to swap the ECM and such correct?

What else is entailed?

And How will I differentiate the 4.8 from the 5.3? How will I know it has the 5.3 crank?

I know it is cast into the block, and the 6.0 says it, but how will I know what the engine is?

4.8s and 5.3 are the same blocks/bores, they actually say 4.8/5.3 on the front. The only way to tell the differences is to get a dealer to run the serial number on the side of the block, or pull the oil pan.

4.8s and 5.3s are the same blocks/bores. There's little differences in the years.
04 and up have the HD rods and they're easy to spot.
They also have the short head bolts. The heads are interchangeable with different years.

a 6.0 is a 6.0. Say away from the 99-00 years

you don't have to get a "new" ECM ---> meaning PCM (computer)
With my old cammed 6.0 thats in my sig, I was getting 17-18, and 14-15 intown. It all depends on how you drive it.

I have new engine on the stand, ready to go in the truck in the morning.
I got a complete 5.3 from a 2006 with 22K for $575.00 and it came with a 6 month warranty to boot!

Should be running by 2pm I hope.

Well after the truck finally delivered the engine, I got my hands on it at about 3:30 PM Friday afternoon. I had to go pick it up from another location, but at least I got it.
I took it to the place I was doing the swap, and got it ready to go in and called it a night.
Came back Saturday morning around 8:15 am and got started, stabbed the engine, and got everything done by lunch except for the intake. Got it all running by 1:30 PM and delivered it to the wife by 2 so she could take my daughter to a B-day party.

So all in all, around 600 bucks counting the oil and filter.

Gonna fix the other engine and just save it for something else/or may sell it later on, just don't know yet.
