windage tray question

1st off, thanks to Cody for helping me out. This is on my 408.

Both the stock & the loaner windage trays hit the rotating assembly.

Can/should it be spaced out to clear? Delete it all together? Aftermarket tray?

Do you have ARP studs in the crankshaft? It should have come with washers for the pan. They're about .090" thick. Another thing you have to do after shimming the windage tray is the height of the oil pickup tube. It will be moved closer to the bottom of the pan and that is not good. The pickup tube should have about 1/4" clearance to the floor of the oil pan. Take some modeling clay or something like than and stick it to the pickup and then put the pan on with a gasket in place and then press the pan down firmly to check the clearance to the floor of the pan. Too small and you'll cavitate the oil flow.

Spacing it out with the arp spacers it will be fine and clear the counterweights.

I had to use a 3/8" spacer previously, I think it was 3/8 anyways. It definatly had to be spaced.

Yup. ARP studs.

I will have to check to see if it came with them or not. I don't remember seeing them.

You should be able to get the washers from the guys that you got the engine from if they didn't send them with the engine. HKE sent the washers with mine. Standard washers will work, it just will take two of them between the studs and windage tray most likely.
