I went to install 4.10s in the truck tonight and found significant damage to the rear driveshaft yoke and bolt heads. The new engine is twisting the spring so much the bolt heads are hitting the shaft yoke. It could definitely use some shims to point the pinion down a few degrees. Caltracs could sure come in handy..
Anyone ever install new gears that aren't marked as to the appropriate pinion depth? I just removed the original bearing and shim from the factory gear and installed it. I'll set the backlash on the ring gear tomorrow and see if I get a good contact pattern. I might have to buy a new LSD since the spider gear pin shows signs of galling and it seems the bearing in the spider must be damaged. It is an Auburn LSD.
