I went to install 4.10s in the truck tonight and found significant damage to the rear driveshaft yoke and bolt heads. The new engine is twisting the spring so much the bolt heads are hitting the shaft yoke. It could definitely use some shims to point the pinion down a few degrees. Caltracs could sure come in handy..

Anyone ever install new gears that aren't marked as to the appropriate pinion depth? I just removed the original bearing and shim from the factory gear and installed it. I'll set the backlash on the ring gear tomorrow and see if I get a good contact pattern. I might have to buy a new LSD since the spider gear pin shows signs of galling and it seems the bearing in the spider must be damaged. It is an Auburn LSD.

Billy, TRTTURBO, will have his on probably before I do mine. I'll start with some pinion shims. I'll update everyone if I ever get the dinero for the Caltracs.

Didn't you feel any vibration or hear any noise if the bolt heads were hitting?

My headers have 16" long 2.5" diameter glasspacks that dump on the ground right behind the driver seat. All I hear is sweet music.

LOL I did a search on cal tracs and came across this. I tore my yoke up also red. I found it when I installed the new Eaton Posi. Shims won't help me so I need some traction bars or a pinion snubber.
