by the end of the week my avalanche will be officially for sale & it should go quick, i have told a few people its geting sold & its not for sale yet and ive had people askin about it. as of now my plan is to get an escalade ext and my question is what trans do they have? if its a 60 will a performabuilt lvl 2 with a stall hold up in it with minor mods, like- cai, lt's, cat back, tune, and u get the point.
any one have any horror stories about escalades i should know about or anything i should look for? thanks.

I did/doing the exact same thing. I still have my avalanche, going up for sale shortly. Let me just say, once you get the ext, you'll forget all about the avalanche, lol.

So back to your question, the '07+ have the 6.2L and the 6L80e transmission. It's a beefed up 80e with two extra gears, to make it simple.

they're aren't any bad stories about an escalade, the trans will hold up to minor/moderate mods and the power from 6.2L is just right.

However, pre-07 will still have a 60,65,70e. Obviously all variations of the 60e. I've never heard of any major "DO NOT BUY" issues with the EXT. I'd definitely go with a 07+, just nicer trucks all around. Which goes for all the GM trucks actually.

thanks guys, the only issue is the $ for the 07 up, my wallet only allows a 05 ish, im tryin to get one straight out without a loan. i have a performabuilt trans to put in it if needed, i have no plans on putting a blower on a truck as big as my avalanche again, it was a novel idea, and fun for a while, just minor bolt ons like i said above and a set of pretty wheels, grill, halo's, led tails, and so on, i also plan on getting a faster car than i have now (gto?) to take care of my go fast needs. im not wanting to swap any more transmissions, my avalanche has burnt me out, the only reviews i could find on the ext were from morons online.

EXT and Avalanche are the same platform so they'd share any major problems. If you like an Ave you'll like an EXT

Yes, the transmission should hold just fine with light mods.

everyone thinks an 80e kills power but it really doesn't, only the stock convertor does due to it immense mass. Get down to a 10" convertor and they roll just as efficiently as a 60/65/70e does.

if you like the avalanche, keep it, especially since you're not going with the nbs escalade, then it would be worth it, cause it's got lots of upgrades.
i'd do the 80e swap and be done. spend a couple thousand or whatever, have it done and bam, back on the road and never look back.
the 80e isn't some biga$$ allison trans, it's just a little bigger, takes a little more power, but holds up well and feels better than a 60e.
Hell, the new 6L80e is behind some small engines and feels just fine, granted it has 6gears, but...

your truck has plenty of power and won't be compromised because of the 80e.

we do them all the time, in stock 4.8L's to FI engines, it's definitely worth it!

You didn't listen to anyone about the trans when you started with boost and your not listening now. Everyone is screaming 80e at you, but you practically have your fingers in your ears yelling "la la la la la, I can't hear you, la la la la la". Either go 4L80e or buy a new truck with a 6l80e and forget about it. Its a lot easier and better upgrade than you think. You can resell your built 60e to recoup almost every penny. You won't be sorry. Just listen this time. It's that simple.

Oh do tell me how it's easy to go to a 6l80e in a GMT800?
