    Tune question

Alright I currently have an 04 ECSB 5.3 2wd with pacesetter Lts, CAI, transgo Hd-2, vette servos and a Nelson 89 octane tune. Im going to get a 93 octane tune and I was just wonder what I can expect as far as power gains? The 89 nelson tune was awesome so Id expect the 93 will be even better

The 89oct tune is pretty close to the premium fuel tune so there won't be as much improvement as there was going from stock to 89oct, but the difference will be there due to more timing.

Yes there will be difference but I advise to run a 180 t-stat or even a 160 to help keep timing from retarding. I also run octane booster to make sure I didnt get crappy gasoline.

The timing table we setup will be OK for premium fuel and under normal conditions and on a normal truck shouldn't detonate. If the truck does, then it could be carbon build up, etc...
The cooler stats do help with detonation, but they shouldn't be the cure to get rid of detonation.
The pcm has tables that reference temp and timing to help avoid detonation.
If a cooler stat is used, it keeps your engine that much further away from detonating due to high heat.

I know there's a lot more to this subject...

Yeah thats what I wanted to be safe. Hey at what temp. do you think detonation occurs?

we all know cooler temps helps with making more power. so does more timing.
i've had engines run up to 230degs (some of the vettes with turbos) and they still run the same timing as cooler running engines.
My truck with twins doesn't have an intercooler, iat's were 200deg down the track, engine was 200degs or so, it was still running good timing 20+degs.
I'm not sure if temp has to do with when an engine knocks, as long as the temp is within an acceptable range,
if i had to guess, it's probably up around 280+degs, never really tried it.

normally detonation occurs when there's too much timing, either by way of tuning, or the truck has some other issues not allowing it to take timing.

i think as long as we keep our engines running at a decent temp and at a moderate power level, under 200deg is ok.
of course, running cooler could help with avoiding detonation.

I'm thinking the 80e would be even more of a dog due to the gear ratios in the tranny and I thing the 80e pulls more power from the engine due to the internals, just my opinion. If you want to smoke them little cars 3.73 or 4.10 and a stall probably do the ticket and get it tuned as soon as available.

the doggy part of the 80e is the stock convertor, replace it with a 10" and you won't notice its there other than the convertor unlocking on decel.
