w-6 are real nice subs they just require more box space but if you have the room i would say go for it . a sealed enclosure would sound better i feel it gives a cleaner hitting bass if you want deeper bass then go with a ported and i would stay away from bandpass boxes i feel they have real sloppy sounding bass. for that sub i would go with a 500/1 0r 1000/1 amp from JL.and runs the subs in parrell or bridged. it all depends on how hard you want it to hit and how long you want it to last a 500/1 has alot of power considering its only 500 but that amp would easily compare to another brand 1000 watt amp. JL amps are expensive but worth it the next amp to choose would be a kicker amp very good amp just a little better on your wallet. i am running a W-6 and a 500/1 amp and have had no problems for years and it still sound awsome. hope this helps. also depending of your power need from you stereo and truck if you have power problems like dimming lights i have a nice powermaster GM style 200 amp alternator real cheap if your interested

already have a Z-56 Hi-output AMP and two Yellow top Optmia Bats

So a 500Watt AMP will work? what am I looking at dollor wise? for everthing and what model #'s are they? I am Deployed in Afghaniston and trying to have My girl get this stuff before I get home so it is ready for Me to jump in and turn key.

I have a LT that has the Z-56 up-Grade the person I got it from was a DEA agent. so it has all the hidden toys.

Oh and Thank You Very Much petey62782!

Petey, I may be interested in that alternator.

I would go with the jl 1000/1 if you are doing two w6's. They cost about $1000. A good rule of thumb on jl amps is $1 per watt. Sealed or ported it will SLAM! One thing good about jl subs is they are very crisp in a ported box also, it's all about what you prefer, but I would go ported if it were mine.

So I am looking right at about $1500.00 for AMP and 2 W-6 12" subs right?

Now if I have a Ported box for two MTX thunderstorm 5500 12" subs will it work or get a new or get on custom made?

    You're very misleading.

    1) Ported boxes are sloppy (if not done correctly)
    2) Sealed boxes will be in general, half as loud as a proper ported box
    3) Bandpass isn't sloppy. Bandpass is normally VERY clean bass, but it is also normally boomy in certain regions and it's impossible to hit the lows (sub 35 hz) in them.
    4) A single 500/1 is tiny for two W6's. A watt is a watt is a watt. True watts are equal, regardless of if its JL or Pyramid.

If you insist on going JL, don't go smaller than the 1000/1.

At least someone knows what the hell they're talking about here.

For 1500$ I could build you a setup that hit twice as hard and sounded just as good. I'm sure you would be fine with that box, but I strongly suggest you get one custom made for the subs. W6's and MTX 5500 are in a completely different ballpark when it comes to specs.

Do you want my HONEST opinion? JL is overpriced and overrated. Its easy for me to say that since I've run both underground companies like Resonant Engineering when they first came out, to Digital Designs, one of the best sub and amp companies in the world. I refuse to use mass produced audio equipment. For 1500$ you could have a brand new DD9515 on about any amp you wanted... we're talking over 3000 watts easily. You could have two Audioque HD3's. You could have some of the new DC subs, Fi, or Adire.

JL are very forgiving speakers...meaning they sound pretty good in any box, but a custom ported box will sound the best, (assuming the builder knows how to build a proper ported box)...in the right box u will love the JL subs, and i think you should be able to get a 1000Slash for about $600 now, the price has dropped quite a bit on them. i run JL and i love them, it will be hard for me to buy anything but JL Audio from now on, sound quality is amazing! and mine is in a ported box.
