    custom window tint

Does anyone on here have custom window tint? If so post some pics. I am rebuilding an 89 chevrolet i got for cheap and i am in the process of converting to power windows. I wanted to do something a little special even if its something small. I have to put my touch on anything and everything i do no matter how large or small it may be. All i really wanted was maybe an ls1 or ls1 truck.com graphic in silver tint on the back glass or maybe a small silver eagle globe and anchor on the other side. I still have the glass out as of now as i am in the process of converting to power windows i got from a government donor truck.

I tried to tint the windows with some tint i got at O reallys but i guess since i had the glass laying on a table the water would just run back under the tint because i couldnt get the tint to stick on the edges and i eventually ran out of time. As much as i hate to admit defeat i got beat by window tint. Its funny how long things take on your lunch break. I have every tool at my finger tips at work but i couldnt pull off a simple window tinthaha.

Anyone got any window tint tips for me? I was thinking of retinting the front two windows on my old mans truck to practice because his tint is peeling off at the bottoms and needs to come off anyway.

If anyone can help me out please do.

First tip, don't use the crap you find at parts stores.
You are on the right track though with tinting the windows off of the vehicle.
I would go to a tint shop and try to buy some off of them. Llumar and solargard are a nice charcoal color so is Johnson films. Sun x is kinda bluish and scratches very easily. Other than that, use a good squeegee and water with a tad of baby shampoo, keep your blade fresh(makes nicer cuts), it also helps to shrink the film before applying it but is not necessary on chevy trucks.

A credit card with a paper towel wrapped around it is great for pesky bubbles too.

will a tint shop sell you just the tint? How do you pre shrink the tint and why? why would it be necessary on other vehicles but not on chevys? I bet i can buy some tint from the lady that tints windows at work. She said she would tint my two fronts for 50 bucks but she doesnt do anything custom so i have to do it myself. thats why i want to learn.

Pre-shrinking is more important for things such as back windows, or any curvy glass. Every car is different as far as tint goes. Custom cuts aren't that hard, tell her to harden the f*** up. To shrink film you just spray the window and film a bit, squeege the water down, respray the film then lightly heat it with a thermo gat(heat gun, hair dryer, etc) while using the squeegee to straighten the "fingers" out. You only want to heat it enough to cause a "zig-zag" effect in the straight "fingers". I wouldn't recommend shrinking film for the fronts unless you have plenty of film.
