    5.3/6.0 with 700r4

wondering what it will take to make it work.

wanna swap a 5.3 or a 6.0 into my 1989 4x4 ext cab and use the 700r4 as it was just rebuilt.

i know im probably gonna need an dbc tb and flexplate adapter.

how will the OEM PCM work with no transmission attached?

It can be done, However Idk if the trans will hold up for long.

they set up the tune as a manual transmission and then you have no issues whatsoever. An automatic tune can be used but all the transmission diagnostic lights have to be disabled.

can you explain "the transmission trouble light will have to be disabled"?

so it seems to me that everything will work fine with the factory tune that came in the donor truck? TCS issues cutting the engine power due to lack of VSS or something like that? sorry for all the questions, but its the first time for me to play with a newer FI engine.

does anyone have any pics of how they set up the TV cable to work on the throttle body? also retaining the 700r4's VSS as a reference will the TCC still work?
FYI: im going to be running the 89 gauge cluster. and as far as the transmission holding up, i guess ill just have to cross my fingers.

If the diagnostic codes for the trans are not turned off then the SES light will always be on and the tune may go into reduced power mode. If the SES light is always on then you won't know when a new code pops up.

I'm in the same boat as you only I'm running DBW on an 03 LM7/L59. So no place to hook the T.V. cable. I've be wanting to go FMRVB anyway so no biggie. The dished 5.3 flexplate and a spacer will work but you'll have to "modify" the bolt holes since the 700r4 converter is 2 mm smaller in bolt circle. 298mm vs 300mm. Unless you get a custom converter. Advance adapters sells a kit if you want to go the bolt on route. There are several companies that sell brackets to make a T.V. cable work if you're running a cable TB. This is my first post so there may be some sponsors on here that do.

So my plan is to run a manual tune DBW set up with the FMRVB 700r4 and the TCC on a switch in my 83 K5.

btw 700's can be just a strong as 4l60/5's
