    hpt ?

Been tuning on the truck today. While logging the truck, The screen in which has the read out. What does the Advance mean? Is that timing? Both trucks we are working on *mine and my friend davids* are showing upwards of 30 in this area.

Working on fuel trims right now. Cant get them pegged. Putting it in SD mode by causing the MAF to fail, Then taking PE to 100, Going on drives and logging the truck then using the LTFT histogram to adjust the VE table. Have it where it should all be withing -1 to 1 and go on another drive to make sure its pegged and the numbers will be way off again. Usually staying around 9s to 13s. Am I missing a step. Turned the MAF back on for giggles last night when I was done messing with it and the numbers are still off just not as much as when I Started... Needing ideas guys. I know the MAF will need tuned after I get the fuel lined out. Then Imma add timing. Truck still is showing 0 KR so I can add a few more degrees.....
EDIT: Also I have some cells in the ve chart that is already around 102 and calling for MORE fuel. The stock chart has no where near these numbers, Neither does the other truck we are tuning, I know my cam is a odd cam as far as lift numbers but this seems OFF

hit up the HPTuners website. There are lots of guys there with the right answer.

I had the same issue when I followed the guide on tuning in SD mode.

+1 on go to HPT site if you don't already have cpig guide or equivalent. There are a number of steps in the editor and scanner you didn't list in the process above.....would be a good checklist.....and will cover the following:

    Things to check in Editor:
Engine Diagnostics - MAF fail high
Under Airflow – General Airflow - Airflow Bias
Under Fuel Control - Power Enrich - PE MAP
Under Fuel Control - Power Enrich - Delay RPM
Under Fuel Control - Power Enrich - Enable torque
Under Fuel Control - OL & CL – STFT Openloop
Under Fuel Control - OL & CL – Max ECT
Under Fuel Control - OL & CL – EQ ratio table
Under Fuel Control – Fuel Cutoff – DFCO Enable Temp
Under Fuel Control – COT, Lean Cruise – COT

    Things to remember in Scanner:
Max. Number of bytes in primary table
    Cell hits required
Drive until hot (at least 10 min.)
Don't log immediately after a long idle
Under VCM Controls – Fuel & Spark – Closed Loop
Under VCM Controls – Fuel & Spark – Fuel Trim Learn
Under VCM Controls – Fuel & Spark - Reset Fuel Trims

As for VE @ 102: I use a WB myself and I am topping into VE 103 domain.....truck runs good. While your thought is logical, the slightly higher numbers are common from what I gather. Originally I hit VE 110 when I followed instructions to set Bias to 1.0 across. Since that time I leave Bias stock.....little more bounce during tuning itself, but the VE table looks more sane and the truck compensates to temps better (winter vs. summer).

    Good Luck

your timing tables were fine Ian....like i have already told you, just because you arent seeing knock doesnt mean you can throw more timing at it...SO LEAVE THE TIMING ALONE

the ve can go to what ever number it needs to so you can accomplish getting the STFT's down to 0...you can also use the MAF to accomplish this is you'd like
    2006 silverado SS....Clifford Jr...turbo coming soon
    1970 Chevelle ly6 swap....d1 coming soon

you need to tune the MAF that is why STFT are off after the ve modification.
    Step 1. crus at it.
    Step 2. get a hammer.
    Step 3. torch it.

Here in is the major question, How, Or better yet let me add and further the story of what my truck is doing and what prompted me to start messing with the tune in the first place.
At the track a few weeks ago my truck would not take n2o to save its LIFE. I layed down low 13.8s on motor. Tried to spray and saw a .1 improvement. So I tried to spray off the line. Truck Started to leave perfect and just FELL ON ITS FACE. Since it didnt explode cause of being lean I figured maybe its too rich. * Note that I have a dry shot that is through the MAF * So I logged the truck earlier this week and it was showing to be trying to add 25+ on the LTFT and still adding on the STFT as well. So I put the MAF into failure rode around and got where the LTFT were supposed to be close. * Keep in mind this is only the part throttle application, WOT was dead on * Turned the MAF back on and claiming it was 25 off again. So I put the original table back in with the MAF off and it was reading decently close. + or -10 with the STFT decently in range as well. Plug the MAF back and and back to 25 off. I can understand the MAF not being tuned but for it to be THIS far off am I looking at a bad MAF sensor??? Anyone have this happen. And if it is all just the MAF now being tuned for this cam how do I go about getting it correct?
