    Ls6

Got myself an LS6 out of a CTS-V that dropped a valve, didn't even touch the sleeve! Destroyed the one head and #8 piston though obviously. The valve hit sideways dead center in the piston! I have LQ9 heads and an LS6 intake for it. Still need all the accessories to go along with it, knock sensors, etc. Gonna tear the whole thing down and measure the crank and cylinders and throw some new pistons and bearings in it. I'm trying to decide on a camshaft, I'm leaning towards the 222/224 .556 .568 112LSA from Comp. I want a nice lopey idle along with the extra power to go along with it. I have the 5 speed manual right now, and don't plan on driving the snot out of it constantly, but still with that kind of power I don't expect the NVG 3500 to last a long time (especially having nearly 250,000km from the lil 4.3), a T56 will replace it. (NO way I'm going auto).

Anyways this will be a gradual build as funds come and parts come, no big rush. I want to have all the parts necessary before I do the swap. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'll have the engine here by the end of next week, I'll post up some pics when it arrives.

from what i hear on t-56 swaps, you're better off going with the LS7 clutch, especially if you're building the motor. also you'll wanna do the drill mod, if you ain't already, or you'll have that same 2-3 crap shift when you're getting on it

good luck on the swap! sounds like a fun truck to have!

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it! I'm really green when it comes to modifying stuff, what interchanges, what parts to use and what not to use etc. I am a licenced mechanic and work at a GM dealer but when it comes to modifications you never see that up here (except for little honda piss pots with the fart can exhaust and 3 foot wing on the trunk) You see the odd truck with a cat back exhaust or a lift on it but that's about it!

Questions! What PCM and harness should I use? I'd like to get one from the wrecking yard since that'd be the cheapest route. Should I get one out of a Z06 or CTS-V that has the LS6/6 speed or would I be better to just get a truck harness, I know they're close to the same. Nelson Performance will definitely be getting my business for the tuning. Not sure if the PCMs are the same as the trucks with just a different tune or what.

Valve springs, I'll be running LQ9 heads on this, any pointers on what springs and pushrods to use with the cam I mentioned in my original post? Or do you even recommend a different cam for this engine with the manual transmission? I see a lot of posts with what cam to run with a certain stall torque converter, but I obviously don't have to worry about torque converters.

For a clutch, pressure plate and slave, will the LS7 clutch/pressure plate/slave work with the NVG 3500? Those are the questions that have been coming to mind, I'm sure I'll think of more!

Same here Nate, I have nothing against modifying anything, just no one does it around here! The guy I'm getting the heads and intake off of is putting an carbureted LS6 into a '68 Camaro who is one of my fellow techs at work, we are researching all this aftermarket stuff together.

I still think mine is too new to touch, only 30000 miles. Just done a lot of reading and question asking on this very subject.
