    Question

Alright so my truck has that brake boost deal (pic below)...i guess its a vacuum booster...my understanding is that it helps the brakes when you arent making enough vacuum right? So keep with me here....if you are building boost while trying to stall up on the line i have heard that the boost will actually lift up on the brakes for you a little, which is why some are going to hydroboost brake setup. Well what if at the track i simply unplug that vac line and cap it off so i dont have a boost least and just let the vac deal work the brakes....i know my brakes will still be okay cause right now i have been driving around without the vac line on for a few days (without knowing)

    thoughts on this??

The booster SHOULD have a 1 way valve in it to prevent that from happening. More times then not, you can find a BIGGER brake booster. Jegs/summit also sell "vacuum balls" which hold more for reserve. Old school cars with really big cams do both to keep brakes working, not sure if the boost would cancel out the effectiveness of those.

I'd be more worried about the truck stopping at the end of the track then the beginning. If that booster runs out of vacuum, bye bye brakes/truck.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

Ok easy way to explain the way the booster works is that it assists you in pushing down the pedal. The vacuum helps with this, usually if there is low vacuum or none the pedal is a PITA to push to the floor, the brakes still work fine because they are hydraulic just the pedal is a monster to push to the floor. Just like having manual brakes. Im not 100% sure how boost affects the vacuum on the booster, but I would think that it would increase it. Maybe not. The Hydroboost setup is ran off of the powersteering unit so vacuum doesn't affect the pedal anymore.

I disabled mine on my 03' V. If you don't disconnect the boost assist, the fan inside will run continously and if you disconnect it electricly it will flash a brake code/light. I forget the resistor size... but ohm out the plug and check the resistance and stick a resistor in it.

v there is an auto salvage place up here in denton with a couple tahoes that have hydroboost in them. if you want to get the parts ill help with the swap. one of the best mods i've done to my truck. you need the booster, powersteering pump, lines, brake pedal, and i know how to get around the code that is thrown from the booster not being plugged in. the mastercylinders are the same so you don't have to let air in the system
