    starter motor question

if the gear on the starter motor is worn, will it destroy the flexplate/ flywheel?

i had my starter shimmed incorrectly and it destroyed myflexplate, im replacing the flexplate today and i see the starter gear is worn, if i put it back together with the new flexplate and the starter properly shimmed will i have any issues?

It Might Wear It Down Some, but If Shimmed Right Should Work Fine

if the starter gear is worn you might as well replace it also, dont take the chance in destroying a new flexplate

    + 1000000

It would be the 1st I've seen since a 70's or earlier engine block and/or reman $16 starter.

There is something else wrong.....big time.

^^^ That helps but it's still pretty rare to need shims.

Spoken (true) words of a GM dealer tech. ACDelco reman starters rarely ever need shims. However, there are a great many sub-par reman starters for sale all over the U.S. Then shims become common again.

If you get it shimmed correctly, and it is quiet(sounds normal) when it starts the engine, then it will likely live a nice long happy life. It would have to be mangled to continue damage on your new flexplate. If it is mangled that bad, it will tell you by the bad noises it would make.
