    4l65e pump failure

I had a guy build me this "bulletproof" tranny for $5k and have blown it up 8 times now. It has been under warranty the whole time but I only get to drive it for about two weeks at a time before it takes a crap on me. He keeps telling me that the pump is failing from too much line pressure. The truck has an sts turbo and running predator for my fuel management. I had my tuning file checked and they said that my line pressure was set to stock. He has tried the 10 and 13 vane pump with no difference. Does anybody have some advice that I can give my mechanic......or know of a place where I can get some advice? Thanks in advance for any help!

Where are you located? Tell him you want to swap it for a 4L80e with a shift kit. No more problems.

sounds like hes got 3 washers in the accumulator, thatll cause it to shift hard as a b***c and break alot of things, and add line pressure.did he use the hd 2 kit?my truck in one of the trannies,my mechnic had too take out all but one washer ,to get it too shift easier, and stop breaking things.also there was a thread not long ago,and farmtruck our local tuner said dont use any washers and just up the line pressure through the tune.wich it sounds like predator can do that for you.good luck hope it helps.you can break alot of things if the shiftkit is installed wrong.

Bulletproof? Sounds more like its got a target painted on it.

What has it broke since the initial rebuild? Does it have a shift kit in it? Which one? Billet or Corvette servos?

Thanks for the input on the accumulator washers.....I will have my builder look into that as an option. Soo far on the first builder I burnt up the 3-4 clutch pack, and then also broke an input shaft and reaction shell. I then paid a bunch more for a better build at a very reputable shop. I have since lost 6 or 7 pumps in this setup. Im not real sure what all has been done to it.......He bought the build kit from Raptor transmissions.

Tell him to put a line pressure gauge on it. See what the max PSI is.

Also check the converter, could be to short or maybe bad runout.

Who is installing them? No offense but I've seen more than one pump die in someone else's arms from not having the converter installed all the way when the bell housing bolts are jammed down. I have never heard of any other cause of pump failure besides wear/mileage and tunes and their high pressures break application, input, and output parts...usually not pumps.

A shop has been doing the install......most reputable company in Redding, Ca. The max psi originally was at 56psi I believe thats when he noticed there was a problem. So they originally tried to spring it to compensate for the high pressure. That didn't work so he blamed it on my tuning. I guess whoever did the tuning did adjust line pressures so I had diablo sport set my line pressure to oe spec. I need some parameters on what kind of torque converter I should be running.......Thanks again guys!
