My family and I are going to Galveston in a couple weeks and wondered what to do around there other than just the beach. There will be five of us and we want to try and keep the expenses in check. Moody Gardens always sounds interesting but honestly, is it worth $31 a ticket? Any other suggestions? We'll be there the week of the 6th thru the 12th of August.

Living in Houston, I have been there and would not recomend going. If you do, the most interesting place is the tropical forest display. Still not all that great and get ready to walk all day, a lot all day.

The strand has some shopping area and resturants. Look for the ferry and and go for a ride. That is more fun than Moody gardens and only cost about 4 bucks for the whole family. Be careful of 5 oclock traffic during the week days.

A ride into houston is only about 45 minutes and a ride to freeport is about the same. In freeport you can drive your truck down to the beach and have a pic-nic and hunt sea shells.

If your into it you can rent fishing equipment, bicycles, boogie bords, tubes and all kind of stuff that is cheap and much more entertaining.

you can take the ferry to crystal beach. it is nicer than stewart beach. there are some nicer areas on the west side of the island. I would not do the $31 at Moody. Check out the Strand maybe. There are plenty of places to eat on the Seawall. It would be alot more fun to go to Galveston when they put the Schlitterbaun in.
