Well the actual ls1 is a 346ci engine. There are several other ls1 based engines though, 293ci, 325ci, 364ci, and i think a 427ci. So yes there is a 5.7 and a 5.3, the 325 is a 5.3 found in trucks, suvs, etc. and the 346 is a 5.7 found in camaros, corvettes, new gtos, and a couple others. As far as putting motors together to get different sizes im sure someone else will chime in. 4.8 ROCKS!!!!

nothing better about the 4.8L, its kinda an on going joke.
some guys dont think it is worth the trouble to make a 4.8L quicker.
    but he I'm running 14.6 N/A.

Lol, yeah its just kinda a joke since its such a small engine. But its so much more fun to say "hey i beat u with a 293ci engine in an extended cab truck" And i love it since it has such a flat torque curve.

one benefit of the 5.7L LS1 from the camaro/firebird is that you save 65 lbs over the 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines. It takes torque/horsepower to move the extra weight so consider this when choosing. The truck accessories are better to help you move the engine further back in the chassis without purchasing additional custom brackets when the engine is mounted further back. I am not sure of your application but the a/c unit will be a booger in most applications. Many like to torch a section of the frame out to clear the a/c, not my choice though. Street and Performance makes a nice a/c relocation kit but it's pricey. See www.hotrodlane.cc for more information on the a/c mount. The tranny of choice today would be the 4L65E. You can use your turbo 400 but bell housing modification will be required and a special flexplate and spacer will have to be used.
