I just finished putting a 2004 5.3 into my 2001 RCSB Silverado. I am going to use you for the tune but I was wondering if you know of anything special that you would have to do to make a 2004 engine work in a 2001 truck. Such as learning the instrument cluster to the new PCM, etc.

My problem is I have no PRNDL display and the truck will crank but will not start. I have spark and fuel. I have the TAC module and pedal hooked up and working. I have the fuse block connector repinned to the best of my knowledge according to the diagrams. I intstalled the complete fuel system from the 2004 (fuel lines, tank, and pump).

I guess my question boils down to this: Do you have to change the VIN in the PCM and take out the VATS for this to work? Do you have any experience tuning a 03-up PCM to a 02-down truck?

I want to get the tune from you but I don't want to waste either of our time if it won't help anything. Thanks in advance for any help or advice anyone can give me.

You went from a V6 to the 5.3L V8?

What Red said, and,

So you're saying you took all the electronics from the '04 engine wiring harness and put it in a mechanical tb truck? That's no problem, but if you're still using the '02 pcm, it won't work, you'll have to use the '04 pcm, but vats will have to be removed. Plus, the body control module might throw a fit on some things, but it will work.

What did you have in the truck before and what engine harness, pcm, wiring are you using?

thanks,
allen

Sorry guys I should have included this in the original post.

The truck is a 2001 RCSB Silverado. It originally came with the 4.3 V6.

Here is what I have swapped over from the 2004 donor truck:

2004 Complete 5.3 engine with harness and PCM
2004 Fuel system (lines, tank, pump, evap)
2004 TAC module and pedal assembly
2004 Park/Neutral switch on the Transmission (changed this out because the connectors are different from 2001 to 2004)

What I mean by "repin the fuse block connector" is that I had to repin the black C2 connector that comes from the engine harness to the underhood fuse block. This was to make sure all of the power and ground sources matched up with the fuse block. So I'm 99% sure I have all the power sources and grounds where they need to be. (Me and Alldata wiring diagrams went on a 20 hour date).

I'm getting the fuel pump to come on and I have fuel at the rail. I also have spark. The truck will crank all day long but will never start. I did have the security light on but I attempted to do the Passlock relearn and the security light is no longer on but the truck will still not start. Will VATS affect the operation of the PRNDL display and the indicator lights or is that the BCM acting up? Also does the VIN in the PCM affect anything?

Thanks,
Brandon

Ok so I found the problem with the PRNDL and indicator lights. Apparently when I was installing the DBW pedal assembly, the ignition wire came out of the interior fuse block. So now that is fixed.

The truck will still not start but it will crank. Have fuel. Have spark. I'm wondering if the VATS is messing with it and cutting the injectors.

How much do you charge to just take out the VATS and fix the VIN in the PCM? I want to get a complete tune from you but I want to at least get the truck started and know that it runs ok.

If the pcm has not been programmed, then there is vats in the pcm, and it needs to be turned off, that will keep the engine from starting. the engine turns over, the pump primes, so you probably have everything correct.
it's $75 for vats and $375 for a full performance tune.

let me know and thanks, what the Red, lol.

Just goofing. I heard that Mike Meyers is making a 4th Austin Powers movie and for some reason the line from Dr Evil rang in my head when he asked how much. BTW, the story goes the this time the movie is through the eyes of Dr Evil.

Ok I might as well go ahead and do the full performance tune. Would it just be easier for me to fill out your online form or just give you a call on Monday?
