Thread: G80 posi?

Hybrid View

  1. #1
I've got a 92 scsb that i'm doing an ls1 swap with and i'm wondering if the g80 posi from the newer trucks is a decent locker/limited slip? Is it worth buying used or is it a waste of money? For that matter, will it even work? My understanding is that the bearings need to be pressed off and the 8.5 put on. Thanks guys

No, they're junk for anything performance related.

Throw on a Tru-Trac. Probably your best bet. Auburns and Eatons are ok, but they have clutches and therefore wear out faster than the Tru-Trac's geared setup. My G80 stock LSD is starting to go--heard it this weekend when it was raining and it was trying to grab, but banged around... Sounded horrible.

I mean that they would wear out faster than a Tru-Trac would in a performance environment. I have 60K on mine and it is starting to go...
