Which gear ratio should I go with? 3:42, 3:73, or even 4:11.

My truck has the 80e, 3200 stall with 28" mt streets, currently 3:42's and the best I have gotten was a 1.76 sixty, with the old turbo setup, STS, now I have the new Trick kit with a 76mm turbo.

    Thanks,

    JJ

I am not a turbo expert, but I thought you wanted the higher (lower numerically) to help "load" the turbo?

Yes, but I think there is a ext cab turbo truck with 4:10 running mid 11's, I think he is Wild Racing. And Allen told me I could go with 3:73's so I'm not sure what to do.

turbo engines love load. the biggest factor would probably be the powerband of the engine and where you want your tach to be when you go through the traps. You want to be close or at the peak of your power band going through the finish line. If you shift at 6100 of so with 4.10's you will trap at about 5100.

WITH YOUR TRUCK BEING A SCSB I WOULD DO THE 3:73. TAKE THE G80 OUT AND PUT IN A BETTER UNIT. AUBURN, DETROIT LOCKER, EATON, ETC... THEY WILL BE MORE RELIABLE. I AM RUNNING A 3:73 IN A ECSB, BUT I AM GOING TO GO 4:10, BECAUSE OF THE ADDED WEIGHT.
YOU COULD GO 4:10, BUT YOU WILL NEED A LOT OF TRACTION CONTROL.

I'm not a turbo expert.... but with and 80E, 3200 stall I would do 4.10's. I just swapped to 4.10's and wish I'd done 4.56's.

I already have an Eaton but it just started to give up, Im taking it to get it fix or change and do the gears as well, I think I'll go with the 3:73's or 3:90's

I love the gearing of the 4.10s. I'd go 4.56s if it's pretty much a track truck with weekend cruising.

Then should I go ahead and save the money for the 14 bolt rear end which I was already planning on it? they come mostly with 4:10 gears, at least the ones I checked, and converte to disk brakes by using the ones I already have.

The cheaper I have found them was for $750 but the guy told me it was off an 04 truck and i tought that they only came on the 05 and up models.

    What you all think?

I know some guys say the lower numerical gearing makes the turbo spool up quickly but does it really help? I'd like to see some numbers, you know. Maybe you could take the truck to the track and get your best runs with the gears you currently have and then make the change and see if it was worth it or not. 60' times matter tremendously and if you have the tire and stability to bite and accelerate, I would think a 4.56 would be so much faster in the 1/4 than a 3.07 gear would be since you'll hit the 60' mark much quicker.
