I just installed the 87 tune from the Diablo Sport and now it pings at high rpms from 1-2 2-3 for a few secs. I have a 01 4.8 with cat back exhaust, air intake, de-screen maf, and I just changed the plugs and wires. I put ngk and msd wires. It didnt have this before the tune. Can the tune be to agressive for reg. gas. I just filled up with 89 to see if it makes a diff. Any ideas. THANKS

Not being argumentative here, but that's one of the benefits of a tune from Nelson - he'll eliminate virtually all pinging.

Not sure what to say about your case though.

I understand. I thought about a custom tune but then I would be stuck to that tune. With the Diablo I have 2 stored tunes I can call them and ask for a better tune depending on engine mods (my brother did it, its awesome). And I have a code reader and data logging with the Diablo. I went ahead and changed the fuel filter right now but havent driven it yet. The truck has 100K so maybe the o2 sensors are not reading correctlly. When I took of my old spark plugs they where kinda white hardly any color to them. I have been using seafoam. Maybe cleaned the plugs and clogged the o2 sensors.

Again, not being argumentative, but you're never really stuck with a custom tune. Allen gives free upgrades, so if you're planning a mod, tell him, and he'll send you a new PCM that accounts for that mod. He's done literally thousands of these and can send you a mail order one that is likely better than the Diablo.

He's a whiz at tuning, that's why virtually 100% of the guys here use his tune as opposed to any other custom tune or handheld tune.

I'd personally encourage you to sell the Diablo and put the money towards one of Allen's tunes. In the meantime, there are some guys here that can give you some input on the pinging. Also, a lot of people have had trouble when they de-screen the MAF. I'm sure you did research prior to doing it and felt it was worth the risk, but just saying it is likely related.

You're real problem is you descreened the MAF. Big mistake if you cannot recalibrate your entire tune to compensate for it, very time consuming for a very little gain. Put the screen back in or replace the MAF and your pinging will go away.

Also run 89oct at a minimum, there's very little performance gained with 87oct.

    good luck,

Well pigning is gone. I dont know if it was a bad fuel filter or that I fill up with 89. Anyways thanks
