finally working on the truck. Got the STS Turbo kit going on a fresh remanufactured 5.3. I wanted to get the tranny bulletproof so I gave Chuck a call. If you want to talk about good customer service, Chuck is the man. I own a custom bodyshop out here in Austin and I know what good customer service does for a business. I wanted to tell you guys that if you ever need a tranny, he's the man. I ordered a 4l65e with a precision torque converter. pics of the build up soon.

Question for you guys. Do I need to upgrade the rear end? And if so, what do you guys recommend? This truck will probably never see the track, just street daily driving.

I would like to hear some details of this project you got going. I'm about to purchase a 5.3 to go in place of my v6 and I am going to be ordering a 65e as well.

What you need to do to the rearend....hmmm, lets see. If you have a peg-legger, get a limited slip diff, any brand. If you have the factory G80, switch it out with a new aftermarket LSD, non-govlock. The G80 will eventually break taking the gears with it. I prefer the Auburn LSD but that's just me. Depending which gears you have, you may want to change them. The turbo seems to like numerically low, 3.08, gears over high gears like 4.10s. Depending how you are going to use the truck really helps to decide on the gears chosen.

Check out their D-REX program that takes care of replacing the unit for $125 if you can wear it out in the first four years. That's awesome. I brutalized my Auburn in my 92 for quite some time and guys at the strip swore I had a spool ( solid locked diff ) in the rear. I have a brand new unit waiting to be installed in my 93 as soon as I can get around to it. The unit I have in there now came out of a 93 Caprice and it's time to be replaced..

I waited until the g80 blew up, and luckily the ring & pinion were in good shape. I was also very lucky the axles didn't break free. Do it now, and know you're safe.

Here's what you need:

Auburn pro - pn 542052
2 bearings - pn LM603012
2 races - pn LM603049
2 c-clips - pn 3833322 (dealer)

Hmm... you do custom body work.. I might need to keep that in mind.

Are you putting the sts and the FLT on yourself?
