Damn, that bites. At least you got it fixed and on the road again. Time for a new tie rod and inspect the steering box for damage. That must have been one nasty bump.

Nice work in doing what had to be done to get it home. I've seen that happen to a Hummer before. Your right about the weight of the vehicle being too much for the tie rods.

ya it really sucks when you are so far up in the mountains that you onstar wont even work and when you are on a hill and have to try and get your truck down when one tire doesnt want to face the direction you want to go plus it got down to 20F when we first got there it was 60F so I was dressed for that i got broke it around 1:00 and got out or got moving againe around 10:00. i had to call all of my friends and try to finde one of them that had a welder that they could bring up there i fianly go ahold of my friend "dirty Bob" and he came up and welded itup in pitch dark in 20F weather. we also had to get the truck off the hill it was about 75 yards on a 45 degree slope and we had to turn it around and take it down the hill all with the passanger tire not wanting to go the direction we are it sucked it took us about 2 hrs to inch it down the hill. i am going to upgrade it with the

This time of year it is best to have some blankets and stuffed packed in your vehicle for such emergencies. They've saved my butt many times and also kept me warm on cold track nights. Good friends that would come all that ways to your rescue are hard to find. Sounds like somebody needs a good bottle of whiskey bought for him.
