Sounds like time for a trip to the stealership. Maybe the body control module is out or you lost ground to the body from the engine/chassis. Normally the PCM would tell the transmission what gear to be in via the shift selector and speedometer pickup on the transmission. Check that your brake lights are working properly. Also, look around for signs of mice. Pesky little buggars will chew your wiring up as bad as squirrels. What was the last thing you did to the truck prior to the malfunctions?

If they do just get a new one. A lot of times they check your VIN for updates and think they're doing you a favor by updating the tune. Duct tape over the OBDII connector and put a note on it not to reflash the PCM.

I know this sounds off the wall but a faulty ignition switch can do just that. The 99-02 switches are notorious for screwing up and causing gauge and shifting problems.

If you read on the Avalanche pages, there is story after story of simular problems with the '02's (the first yeat for the Avalanche).

    It's worth trying.

Not sure about the cluster issue. Is the trans problem seperate from the cluster problem (meaning do they occur simultaneously or not)? When I did my swap, I overlooked a lead that gives the trans power, thus only giving me 3rd gear (unless manually shifting). I traced my wires back to the fuse block to find that I needed to jump onto a 12V switched source. Seems like too simple of a solution, but check your power at the underhood fuse block. You may be lacking power that distributes to multiple places. Just a suggestion... but, the switch leads (or a connector) may be loose b/t the switch and the fuse block. I'd grab a multimeter, and go probing points in between. Or, a bad BCM could be the culprit. Would have to look at service manual's diags when I get home tho.

    Good luck.

I'm sorry for the bad advice. I would have bet money on that.
