my buddys got a 2000 z71, and he was changing the oil in his truck, he reset the engine oil light. left it alone. came back an hour later and now his stereo isnt working. he said "i turn the truck on and the screen stays black until i hit the clock button, then the clock comes up for like 20 seconds then goes off again, but i can't turn it on." he has an after market system hooked up to his stock stereo. so hooked up to the stereo, is the rca cables, and the remote wire. its wierd. any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Sounds like the anti-theft module has been activated.

ducky is it a stock stereo he had or that he picked up seperatly and why is he using a aftermarket harness? The clock power is seperate from the stereo power and he may have blown a fuse to the radio power. Dunno

its the stereo that came with the truck. he just has subs connected to his stock stereo, thats why i said hes got rca cables and a remote wire running from the amp to the stock stereo

then I would check for a loose connection, blown fuse, bad ground, but it does sound like the anti theft protection has activated. Not sure why it did not reset when he input the code. But like I mentioned the stereo power is seperate from the clock.

where is that power source located? just in the fuse box? because my buddy said the fuse isnt blow for the stereo, and then he said "the CD and tape players both have power to them but i can't turn the stereo on". there wouldnt be a short of any kind would there?
