Thread: Need info on installing gears

    I have a 4.10 gear for my truck and i have the installation kit. I went down the other day to see what they charge to install it since i have everything all i need is the labor and they are telling me it will take about 5 hours and at a cost of around 375. is this the going rate or am i getting raped. Info would be good help would be good also. If any of you know how to do it and dont mind i dont mind getting dirty and or course i will pay cash Just let me know any info and if you dont mind giveing a hand let me know how much. I am in the pasadena area live over by hobby lobby. Anyway thanks for taking the time to read and any info would be nice thanks again

    Damn, that's expensive! Where was that, the dealer? Any shop that takes that long to set up gears is incompetent.

    Shouldn't cost more than $250. I would call the dealer and ask what the book time is. I think they only get 5 hours to R&R a trans/transfer in a Silverado SS. The only parts you need besides the gears is a front and rear pinion bearing and a new crush sleeve. Try and go to a driveline shop they will have the best prices and probably the fastest turn around.

    It was at local shops around here they were both in the upper 300 so i will go to another one tomorrow and see. If not i will have to take out a morgage rofl again thanks and keep you all informed of what i find out.

    That does sound high. &#036;250 is the going rate around here.
