Guys , I'd like to get some input on towing with this engine and the 4L60E transmission . I"m getting ready to go on a long ass drive ! I'll be leaving New Orleans next month to go hang gliding in North Georgia and from there I'll be going to Montana to party with several of my friends who are meeting up there . So I bought a used pop up camper that weighs about 1200 pounds . Plus , I'll have my camper shell on the truck and all of the other crap you take camping . I figure I'll be weighing about 1800 pounds more . I''ll be adding a 12 " X 8" trans cooler and doing a filter and fluid change on the trans as well . How well do these set ups pull and can I tow in overdrive with this kind of weight ? Thanks fellow maniacs

I'd be more worried about pulling the frame off of the trailer during acceleration with all that pulling power. I towed my 20 ft I/O SeaRay boat without any problems. You should not have any problems especially if you've had any amount of TM removed.

I plan on pulling my 18Ft bass boat with mine when I do get around to doing the conversion. I might go with a 6 speed instead of the auto though... not sure yet. (If I do go with the 6 speed I will lower the rear end Ratio.)

I pull a 26' camper with mine (5.3) and I have no problems. I do have bigger trans cooler, 4.10's, and can't forget the supercharger. The blower really helps. Just be sure and use the tow/haul button. A popup really doesn't weigh to much so you shouldn't have a thing to worry about.
