From what I understand there is a horsepower increase when you remove EGR because of a slight obstruction of flow. Is there any true increase?? I hear some people just modify it for better flow rather than remove it. Are there any other Free horsepower mods out there?

you can either modify it or remove it. both with same results. i removed mine because i didnt like the idea of exhaust being pumped back through my intake.

to modify your stock egr, remove it from the intake. dont wory if you bend the tube a little because its pretty flexible. when you remove it you will see where it tapers down. chop it off right there(chopping off about an inch of material). make sure all of the metal shavings are cleaned up before putting it back in.

    other free/very cheap mods.

cut a hole in the bottom of your stock airbox, egr trimming, throttle body bypass. you can also look into porting your own throttle body. i DO NOT recomend messing with the screen in your MAF. i had small problems when i did mine.

all of these mods have minimal if any gains.

    old mod list: H/C/I/N/E/G 408
new mod list: 5.3, gears/posi, mufler and tune : (

I removed my EGR, only gain you will see or feel is knowing exhaust isnt being pumped back into your intake and you know you will never have your EGR go bad. There is a kit on LS1speed.com available for this mod. Search for 00-02 LS1 EGR header and manifold blockoff. There is a plug and plate you will need.

Also, on the MAF descreening, dont do it, I had a terrible time getting rid of the ping when Allen did my tune, popped a stock one back in and no more pinging.

the CAI one is descreened I believe, it says you need cold air tuning for it, whcih basically means its junk. The goal is smooth airflow through the sensor, whcih wont be done with a descreened sensor, the air will be turbulant and the sensor cant read all of the air coming through. Stock with the stock sensor, it outflows your intake so there is no real reason to upgrade.

Maybe just your luck with it. All the dyno sheets and experiences I have heard of though and seen showed no increases over stock, but every vehicle responds different so who knows.
