I changed the oil in my '99 Silverado with a 5.3 tonight and the Check Engine Oil Level came on. I put in 6 quarts like alway, no leaks. Level is fine (Ichecked it 3 times). Any suggestions? The message will not go away.

Is your oil pressure gauge reading what you would normally expect?

Okay, this may be really reaching, since i'm not sure how the '99 instrument cluster and "DIC" is setup, but this comes directly from an '04 owners manual:
CHECK OIL LEVEL If the oil level in the vehicle is low, this message will appear on the DIC. Check oil level and correct it as necessary. You may need to let the vehicle cool or warm up and cycle the ignition to be sure this message will clear. Once the problem is corrected, pressing the select button will clear this message from the DIC display.

Is that the reset trick with the pressing the accelerator pedal down three times?

no i think thats one of the good ol' steering wheel buttons on the 03-up... the 99's dont have the buttons on the wheel, the 3 time accelerator pedal trick just resets the "change engine oil" light which comes on every 3000 miles pretty much .. if you put in 6 quarts (of mobil1...hopefully) it should be fine because it obviously has the right amount of oil in it.. i have a 99 and never had this problem before..... just my

Not sure what kind of hocus pocus they use to figure it out, other than it will at least tell you once a year the oil needs changed![]()

The message was off this morning when I went to work. It has never done this before. Thanks for the help.
