I am installing the transgo shift kit in the 4l60e on my truck. I will have some help that is a little more qualified than myself cause I ain't no tranny man. What is the timeframe for the install and are there any specific details or tools not mentioned that i might need to complete it. How hard is it and what should I expect besides the fact that nothing ever goes as planned the first time around. Any advice from someone who has attempted this feat would be helpful. Also, in tank fuel pumps..some say it is better to raise the bed and some say to remove the tank... with help of course. What's the most popular vote !! There again..any advice to save me some headache would be nice. Thanks

I'm not sure on the shift kit, but on the fuel pump it is much easier to remove the bed!

I've done the pump both ways and lifting the bed is the easiest. The transgo kit was pretty easy, just take your time and follow all the instructions. Don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask questions when in doubt. Open the kit and go over the install a few times in your head before doing it on the truck. Buy the kit with the install video.

I dropped the tanks from my F150 to replace the sending units with pumps... not too hard, pulling the bed needs about 3-4 people...

Search on this site for TransGo and me as a poster, you'll surely find more info than you can imagine. lol

RedHeartbeat has rebuilt his 60E a few times as he lacks the few odd special tools needed to do them... as I do too.

Thanks for the words of wisdom guys...sounds like the lifting the bed is the best course of action here for the fuel pump. I did get the tranny kit with the video and you can trust that I will be watching it a few times and reading the instructions. This to say the least will be a learning experience for me as far as the tranny goes. Well let's see whats on the to-do list this weekend....Install transgo, fuel pump, brakes and power slot rotors with new hawk pads, 42#injectors and get that Nelson Tune...whew..lots do...better get some rest. I'll be throwin some emails out for help as I go as needed. You guys hang in there for me and Thanks again for the help. Stay cool !

There's a lot of little stuff you should install w/ the TransGo too... new sep plate depending on milage, a Servo Check valve, Aluminum or Pinless accumulators, etc.

What do you have that needs 42lbs/hr injectors?

Yeah, that was what I was wondering. Somebody must have some serious air flow in the works. I sure hope you have your PCM already programmed for the larger injectors or you'll be flooding out.

Allen is taking care of the tune for me and yes I am already equipped with a Vortech Supercharger with 7 psi...going to install the intercooler to lower that intake air temp...change the pulley and push a few more pounds of boost through her (10Lbs) Allen said that I would be safe with 10psi and a good tune. Gotta get those air/ fuels right or else. The transgo with the 60e is a patch to get me to the next phase. My long term goal from here is to roll with what I have and then in the near future I am going to first install a built 80e with a stall and bolt it up to the 5.3 for now and run it for a bit. Then save my pennies for the 6.0 and build it up a bit with pistons and rods, cam.. etc. Then off to the Lone Star state to see Allen and company and install the turbo kit By that time I will already have everything in place for the new engine to bolt to. Sounds easy enough right....wrong....nothing ever goes easy after stock. It's kinda like being a not so good looking guy in a room with a bunch of pretty ladies.......you take what you can get !! So for now I will take what I can get. Hitman I have 65k on the truck..not bad for a 00 model. You metioned other "little" parts to install with the transgo. sep plate, servo check valve, aluminum or pinless accumulators etc. Care to elaborate on this a bit more. Will I need these other items that you mentioned. Like I said it's the little things that will hang you when you least expect it, and somehow, I can already smell that new rope. Break it down ! Thanks

I just got off the phone with a local tranny shop. He gave me some info. Has anyone heard of the p 1870 code that is thrown with the smaller transgo kit. He said to make sure that I bought the kit the PWM valve in it. the L or K kit. He said that some of the older kits don't come with this valve. Yes.. I may be better off leaving this to the pros.

Those are the base TG kits, the K for sure does the TCC lockup conversion. The only difference I saw between them was the lack of firmer accumulator springs (I have some stiff Sonnax ones if you want them) and I don't recall if it comes with a larger boost valve or not.

That kit is made more for the every day driver vehicle. The HD-2 and PSK both have everything the base TG kit does, and the more.
