    shredded differential... PICS

Alright i want to start off and say that my truck is f*****, It all started when is was going home, i hit wot for a second and all of a sudden BOOM my truck started to slow down as if i hit the brakes and a loud screech came from the back of the truck and griding of gears from the transmission. I rolled to the side of the road and was later tow home by a friend.

then the next day me and my cuz (lukecibilch) took off the diff cover to see how much damage had been done. We did this before anything with the trans b/c we knew that thing was done. So when we saw the damage we could not believe the outcome. There was a large hand full of broken differential and the magnet was completely covered with shards and thats just the beginning

Next thing that we realized is that the differential wasn't even connected to the axles and the ring wasn't meshed up to the pinion! So some how the ring gear started rubb against the rear end cover, wearing about a 6"-7" line into metal so as it did that the area of the cover got red hot and got soft enough to push out the metal making a raised area about .5"s wide .25"s out and 6"-7" long. B/c the differential cover got hot the raised area had no paint on it b/c it had been burned off... As if that wasn't weird enough, there was a small gash on the diff cover about 1/8th inch across it looked like it was shot with a gun. The hole was at the top of the. This explained where that quart of fluid went.LOl

YES! That is absolutely beautiful!!! Reminds me of when I had the same thing happen!
Good luck with the fix buddy! I hope yours doesnt turn out to be the the pain in the rear mine was! When mine blew somehow the explosion rounded the C-clips off so that they wouldnt slide off of the axel, Ended up having to take a hammer, punch and grinder to the ends of the axel to get the c-clips out as to pull out the axels!

Did you pulled the axles b/c they were bent and did you get new ones?

Thanks guys. Everything was oem (3.42). I ordered a FLT 4l60e level 3 and a 3000 stall from yank that will be sent to FLT, to be dynoed together. Also i will order a Eaton Posi or tru trac, any suggestions? New bearing kit, and new gear ratio 3.73 or 3.90? Is it possible I'd need anything else? Could the axles be bent?

get the truetrac. I tried the other and the clutches wear out. Truetrac is clutchless.
