    Is your driveshaft in?

Not sure man...shift cable connected? Prindle switch connected properly? Converter properly seated and bolted to the flexplate?

    There are SO many possibilities!

fluid up to level while its idling in park? Linkage is connected to the valve body inside the transmission? If you pull a hose on the radiator cooler does transmission fluid pump out of it? Did you remember to put the bolts into the converter through the flywheel? Do you have power to the transmission?

converter never came apart from engine, we took it ou of the suburban (engine and tranny) and put them back together in my truck.. put the engine on my truck and when it was correctly seated we put the tranny back on the engine and bolt it back together.. one thing, the shifter does not feel right.. I have to SLAM it to be able to put it in PARKING..

Ok, so you removed the engine and tranny from the Suburban while they were bolted together??? I thought that was impossible with our trucks because of the way the front suspension was designed..in coordination with the oil pan...

Anyway, if you left the converter bolted to the flexplate while installing the motor...THEN bolted up the tranny, you more than likely did not seat the input of the tranny onto the hub of the converter properly. The tranny is not all the way forward, which explains why the shifter cable is too short. DO NOT START IT OR DRIVE IT ANYMORE!

Remove the transmission from the motor and conveter from the flexplate. Once it is all apart, seat the converter onto the transmission. Line up the keyways on the hub of the converter to the input of the tranny. Push and rotate the converter until you feel it fall into it's place. It should push in and 'chunk' twice. That is when it is installed properly. The back of the converter should be a little over and inch INSIDE the bellhousing of the transmission. Then you are ready to bolt it up. Make sure that once the tranny is stabbed that you manually shift the tranny into neutral so that you are able to spin the converter freely so you can bolt up the converter to the flexplate through the opening where the starter goes. Use a pry bar to spin the flexplate through the inspection cover to view the locations on the flexplate where the ears of the converter bolt up. There are 3 converter bolts--15mm. There are several holes on the flexplate, but the ones that the converter bolts go through have a small recessed dish around them.

Once it is all together, it should work. Lets just hope you din't tear up the front seal and burn up the pump of the tranny.

Make sure that you have filled the tranny with enough fluid. If all the fluid was drained before you installed it, you should put in 8 quarts. Than start it up and let the motor get to normal temps, then check the tranny fluid level. It may need to add anywhere from 2-4 quarts. If the fluid is low once the motor is warm, add 2 quarts. Then shift the truck from P to R, then back to P. Go through manually shifting all of the gears. Once that is done, check the fluid level again. It SHOULD have dropped slightly. Add fluid until it is at normal level.

well said Tyler, also make sure you have about an 1/8'' gap between the convertor and flexplate once the tranny is bolted up, and the convertor spins freely. If it doesn't then the convertor isn't seated in the pump.
