Unhappy Trans shop trying to fool me... must read.

ok, this morning I called my local custom trans shop and asked how much it cost to have my 60e built and how much would it cost to have a 80e installed, this guy told me about $3,500 to $4,500 my 60e built to hold 350hp to the wheels not including labor and $12,000 to have a 80e semi built and installed, then he said that those trannys off the internet wont last me 100 miles, when he said this i laughed and hung up.

he also said $350 total for him to just swap mine for a new built 60e that i would provide, which i guess is reasonable?

so i'm asking anyone who has experience, what should i do??

..and also all i have is a 06 5.3 with a tune, shift kit, servo and magnaflow turndown

It really depends on how much you want to spend but you can get a level 5 65E for around $2500 and a level 5 80E fro around $3500. Check out Finish Line Transmissions | Performance Transmissions | Torque Converters | Transmission Parts | Transmission Service for more info. Obviously install will be more but nowhere near the 12K quoted you for an 80E install. I have had my 65E for near a year with no worries...about 8000 miles so far. I'm sure there are other trannies out there that won't last long but the folks at FLT know what they are doing.

Get the FLT and be done with it. I like the 80e though you lose a bit of power through it due to the additional rotating mass and additional weight.

I would not let that shop touch a single thing of mine for any reason. Trailer your truck to San Antonio and let Nelson Performance take care of it with an FLT. Or I bet for 12k you could have an engine transmission and SS Wrecker pick it up and deliver it to Nelson Performance. FLT all the way. No substitute for the best.

I would contact them directly on that one...it will depend on driving habits and set-up though

If you have a stock truck level 3 would be fine. I would not go with any thing less than level 5.

I will say it again. there is no substitute for the best. I have been running my truck around like crazy for 3 years with an FLT level 5. I have over 500hp 4wd and drive like a bat out of hell. I also tow a 14' trailer that has seen 100mph loaded behind my level 5 . Guys will swear they can do what FLT can do. They think they can but truth be known they have no clue. The only other person I would consider building me a transmission would be a guy on Silverado SS he is in Texas. PM me and I will tell you his name.
