wrong size socket? Sears has those easy out type sockets for rounded off heads. An impact is usually best to break bolts loose.

Only use a 6 point socket on those, no 12 point sockets.

That can be a tough one. How long have those bolts been in there? You could, as a last resort, if nothing else works, drill a pilot hole in the center of it, then step up drill bits until you've removed the head of the bolt. I'd probably try an assortment of 6 and 12 point sockets(driving them on with a hammer), then resort to welding a bolt onto it, then drilling last.

Why are you removing the head, just out of curiosity?

I didn't offer any solutions.... you didn't really ask. I've used the Sears sockets Red mentions. They work well. I've also welded another nut to a couple and that worked.

Started off using the spline S&K's. Then on to a 6-pt...3/8", 1/2"...

Sorry...long night. Louis recommended getting a 1/2" impact socket, hammering it on, and trying that.

Alton mentioned hitting it with a hammer repeatedly to warm it up...

Open and appreciative of all suggestions.

That's all good advice. It will come out, just needs a little extra effort. Don't give up.

Seems like once I get frustrated with a situation, things go from bad to worse. I'm usually better off to walk away from it for an hour or two, then when I come back it seems to go easy. Good luck man!

Edit: If the other bolts are already loose, tighten them back down. If that one bolt is the only one holding the head down, there is more pressure against it. Just a last second thought.

Good idea...I'll try that (the others are all loose).
