    Another noob from Ga

I have an '01 2500HD, 6.0, 2wd, 5spd, 4.11 rear, and I plan to swap in an LQ9 and do a 4wd conversion. I've been on other GM websites and you guys seem to be much more mechanically inclined here. I'm a pipefitter/welder so I'm also thinking of TIG'g up a turbo kit. Have many questions and hope to get them answered and I'll answer any that I'm capable of LOL

Why go to the time and expense to swap an LQ4 for an LQ9....especially if you put on a turbo?

Welcome to the site, we needs pictures of your truck!

I was under the impression that the LQ9 was head & shoulders above my antique 6.0 (which is still plenty strong at 177K) BTW. I'd be happy to weld up some tubing for a turbo if that's the better route-slowly getting my plan together. I think the turbo route may be better for fuel consumption

Welcome! I wouldnt say head and shoulders over the lq4. Maybe a forehead above. Personally I'd Just turbo what you got. Maybe refresh the engine and do some head work if you really just want to get some power before the turbo is added. If you just got to have the lq9 holler I may know someone that wants a old 6.0 to build up (if you didnt guess its me!)

I appreciate the info and I'd consider it but I think the 6.0 will be right at home in the old lady's '02 Tahoe after a rebuild.

No one wants to sell me a 6.0. I think this is like the second time I've been shot down on one! haha. It just isnt meant for me to have more displacement! Food for thought I want to say if you Fabbed up a turbo to the lq4 it would work on the lq9 if you wanted to go with it later on. After you got it on you could seriously know if you wanted to go through the work of all the swaps. I personally think with a cam, turbo, and maybe a stall you wouldnt be worried about swapping out motors

Stock to stock, the LQ4 would be better for a turbo build than the LQ9 due to its lower compression allowing you to run more boost before pinging.

Welcome! Ya--stay with the LQ4 for now. Just build a badarse FMT for it and let 'er rip! No need to clean the motor out--the boost will do that for ya!

While you are modding, throw in a GT2-3 cam, valve springs, and pushrods.

Thanks for the input guys, yeah, that makes sense, I think I have just 8.5/1 CR on the LQ4; that would help explain why these motors last so long. I think I might need to toss the NV4500 for a Tremec 6060 or the weaker T56
