Yes, a new wiring harness is needed. And it should bolt right up...but there is other stuff to worry about--column shifter and cable, tranny cooler lines, drive shaft, PCM, etc...

-- oh for a second I thought you were putting a lt into a 2006, i was like "say what?" but din i was like "oh"

I think the tranny will bolt right up, youll have to worry about the shifter though, and the drive shaft might not be the same length, but im not sure on that one. I think it would be fairly easy.

I did it in a 96 for my dad in a farm truck and put a NV4500 in. I just left the selector module for the auto trans plugged into the harness and made it think it was in park all the time and spliced in the VSS. I just took the shift lever off the steering column.
Ghetto way to do it, but it worked and it was a farm truck so we didn't care.
To do it correctly you would really need a donor truck.
