    headers and a cam

ok, i have a 2003 silverado Z71 with a 5.3 in it. i want more power, just becuase i have a sudden urge to just mod the hell of out my truck lol. but what to do?? all i have now it a cat back, jsut for sound.

what i want. i know i want to do an E-fan setup, headers, cam maybe, and try to do it all at once with a tune. also gonna do a CIA with it. but i have a few questions. i have no idea what is best. i want good stainless headers, or atleast ceramic coated so that they will last. an di am gonna go wheatley on the tune most likely. but i have no idea on a cam. also, how hard is a cam to install? i am kind of on a budget so nothing outrageous in price. i will probably do teh ford taurus 3.8 e-fan. also, i am gonna need a new exhaust setup with my header. can i run no cats and be ok? no emmsions here BTW. any other suggestion for some nice power?

1st question is how do you use your truck? Do you offroad it? Do you sometimes get the urge to do a little rock crawling? Do you want it to be a fast, high RPM beast? Do you want high speed power or a strong low rpm pull?

my truck lives it day to day life as my Daily driver. but it does see some off road use. more than jsut a field, i have 4 wheel drive and i use it lol. not really rock crawling, but more jsut general trail use. it will also be used as a tow pig, but only about once a month or so. mainly jsut my daily driver. not looking for a dyno queen by any means, just want somethin with some more umph.

I'm thinking that you don't really need long tubes for that purpose. i'd be focused more on gears and a quality diff and then maybe a CAI and tune. You need at least 4.10s in that size of truck and they'll come in handy pulling trailers and for offroad use.

well i know for a fact i am gonna do the Long tubes, the PCM, a CAI, and efan.

plus the long tubes will help me get the sound i am goin for. it is not loud enough now, so the LT's will help out there alot.

it only gets used offroad rarely, not nearly as much as i could like to though

Damn there is so much that can be done... What are your current gears? 3:42's? Definitely do 4.10's, lockers in front and rear, a 2600-3000 stall, beef up the tranny, LT's, 3" off-road Y-pipe, CAI, e-fans, tune, and pulleys. Once you are aready for a cam, do something like a TR 220/220 .551/.551 112 LSA cam. Follow the link and see how much more power was made. The truck's mods used in the dyno and the same as what you would be doing...

factory gears are 3.73's. a stall will come with the cam. LT's and the offroad are for sure to. i most likely won't do pulleys, have heard to much bad about them. i don't want to go quite that big on a cam. looking for somethin a little smaller, to let me keep/gain low end. here are the specs on teh cam i am looking at getting 214/220 .520/.527 114 LSA.

probably, but the headers will give me some HP as well. headers are a must IMHO. simple to install and give a decent gain for the money
