Thread: Fuel cooling

    OK, I may have posted about this before, I can't remember, and the search button is way up there ^.

    So, couple things: I'm looking at Moroso cool cans and it says they're not recommended for high pressure fuel injection systems. Does that refer more to high end drag racers etc.? Also, Flex-A-Lite makes a small fuel cooler that I was thinking of getting. I'm actually contemplating using both together. The fuel coolers look like a tranny cooler, so I'm wondering why you couldn't just use a tranny cooler (much larger)?

    Also, can Snow Methanol kits be used with N/A engines? I thought they were for Nitrous applications?

    Gimme your thoughts.

    So, why the fuel cooling? So it will atomize with the air better once it hits the combustion chamber? I have not seen or heard a lot about fuel cooling, so it would be "cool" to find out what it does and the results. Yes, I know, that was an absolute stupid pun...

    I am guessing that they are taking to professional drag racers who use high pressure fuel lines when they say it is not recommended. Some people who are running large fuel pumps with FI may be pushing the issue though...

    Anyway, I guess I'd just do one thing at a time. I wouldn't go too cold with the fuel. From what I have heard, 60 degrees is a good temp for very efficient fuel atomization. Anything cooler than that will not let the fuel slide through the lines properly, thus decreasing fuel line pressure.

    I say try the Cool Can first. Then if you like the results, then do the cooler lines as well. I think it would be a cool idea. Moze, be the guinea pig...

    As for Meth, I don't know. All I know is that it cools the air in the intake manifold before combustion...

    Yeah - cooler fuel = cooler mixture, better combustion, more hp.

    Seems like common sense unless I'm missing something. Take it a step further - why not some kind of sleeve you can freeze and clamp around your intake tube for cooler IAT's?

    I rigged more crap up on mine last night. The True Flow intake has the metal supply tube. Even after cruising and not sitting in traffic, I'll check it and it's HOT. Hot enough to change the air temp at the speed it moves through? I'm not sure. But it can't help so I wrapped some reflective metal HVAC tape around it (probably won't help anything) and then slid a piece of ribbed black leech pipe over it. It 1.) keeps the radiator hose off the intake tube and 2.) acts as a barrier from the heat in the engine bay. I have no clue if it makes a difference but it makes me feel better and cost next to nothing to do.

    Yeah, I&#39;d love to get my IAT&#39;s lower too. I have the Series 77 K&N, and the intake tube is a polished aluminum. I am almost positive it is hot as balls when I am driving it. I wonder if there is a way that we could wrap coils around the CAI tube leading to the TB..then somehow tie the coil lines it to a reservoir (like the Cool Can)...then wrap it in some kind of insulation material to keep the engine bay temps off it????? The only reason why I say that is because I have seen that some people put bags of ice on their intake while they are in line to race at the track...

    Yes, the Aeroforce does give you intake temps.

    Dude, if that 3" corrugated drain pipe cools the intake temps, you think it is cooling the rain water that flows down from my gutters and into the street? Not to mention the run off from the backyard... J/k. From what you did--heat reflective tape and the corrugated ABS plastic pipe--it should keep the temps down. Any chance you could drive it around then peel everything off to feel the temperature of the pipe???

    Not a chance. lol It was a pain to get the stuff on there over the clamps. I cut little &#39;flaps&#39; so I could get to the clamps if need be, but I don&#39;t plan on taking the plastic pipe off. I need a short piece of A.C. flex duct with the foil reflective sheathing to slip over it. That should help a bunch with the temps. The combination of everything should do the trick.
